“Empathy uncovered the truth that we all carry hurt from silencing, & deep inside we are all desperate to talk and be heard. ”
THE REASON
Emma has been passionate about mental, relational, and sexual health from an early age. She was always that friend that knew the answers, gave the advice, and offered a safe space to feel vulnerable things. Now she holds space for deep inner healing and growth as a career.
Endlessly curious and never afraid of a challenge, the lack of education around wellbeing, relationships, emotions, bodies, and sexuality offered in the schooling system lighted a spark in Emma to understand more.
People who speak about vulnerable topics are often silenced due to the world’s fear and embarrassment. Yet, these very same emotions cause great suffering to us all. The topic of mental health and sexual wellbeing can be uncomfortable for many, however, as Emma started talking to people she discovered that through approaching them with empathy and kindness their fear and embarrassment lessened. Empathy uncovered the truth that we all carry hurt from silencing, and deep inside we are all desperate to talk and be heard.
Emma quickly learnt that listening and talking openly about difficult topics was a gift that everyone benefits from.
THE JOURNEY
Emma began her journey studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies to understand society and culture, she went on to study a Graduate Diploma of Sexology to understand sex and relationships, and she finished her Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy to understand individuals. She has also completed her Externship in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy.
Throughout her studies, Emma has learnt a range of approaches to therapy. She is especially inspired by Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and individuals combined with Trauma-Informed Somatic Approaches working with the body, however she also works with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Creative Approaches.
She has taught emotional, social, and sexual wellbeing at primary and secondary schools, facilitating incredible discussions in age-appropriate ways. She has also worked in aged care and childcare settings, worked on engagement programming for university students, trained teachers and parents on how to navigate sex education, and applied early therapeutic intervention strategies for individuals with psychosocial and physical disabilities throughout her career.
Throughout the journey, Emma has counselled a large range of diverse individuals with radically different life stories, personalities, beliefs, needs, and difficulties. With each life story shared, Emma has felt her capacity to care for people and love humankind as a whole expand.
Emma opened her private practice in early 2024.
She currently offers individual and couples sessions in her clinical rooms in Richmond and Moorabbin and also offers Telehealth.
